I am Kanesha "KaCey" Venning, a candidate for Atlanta Public Schools District 7 At-Large seat. I am running because I believe APS can serve as the center of our community. Building the grassroots movement we need to ensure our success takes time and resources — I know all about that!
As an advocate for youth, I actively give my time, talent, and resources to empower their education, mental health, and entrepreneurship. Have there been challenges — of course! Yet, none of the work I have accomplished came without building a strong coalition with the community and local stakeholders helping each child to succeed.
This campaign is also about equity.
My definition of equity is about dismantling [old] systems and removing institutional conditions – eliminating the barriers as we rethink how we do school, prepare students for real-life, and restore fallen students with restorative and social justice.
The world has changed — which means that the way we move forward in our education system has to evolve. We must ensure our students are well prepared, which we have witnessed is not an easy feat. However, I believe we can build the momentum to do it together.
Every student in APS deserves to have an evidence-based curriculum to ensure all K–12 student achievement.
College and career readiness requires more from a student than test preparation.
We can reach underperforming students through a culturally responsive curriculum for inclusionary learning.
